700 dairy farmers meet in Tokyo to call for milk price increase

On November 14, 2018, the Dairy Farmers’ Political Federation of Japan (Nihon Rakuno Seiji Renmei) gathered at the LDP headquarters in Nagata-cho, Chiyoda ward, Tokyo, to announce the launch of the initiatives for maintaining and developing small- and medium-sized businesses-most of them run by families-that are responsible for the majority of production of milk in Japan.

Dairy farmers fight to survive

About 50 percent of the raw milk produced in Japan comes from Hokkaido. Domestic dairy producers are taking various measures in anticipation of falls in the price of imported dairy products due to the economic partnership agreement (EPA) with the European Union that is expected to take effect in 2019.
