Algerian dairy group, US agricultural group ink $300 million deal

An investment agreement worth $250 to $300 million (nearly 25 to 30 billion dinars), on the achievement of several agricultural projects in the southern province of Adrar (1543km south of Algiers) has been signed Monday in Algiers between Algerian private dairy group Tifralait and the American International Agriculture Group (AIAG).

Algeria Dairy Imports Slow

Algeria’s imports of dairy products slowed in November 2012, totaling just 19,326 tons. This comes after purchasing over 30,000 tons in both September and October. During the first 11 months of 2012 Algeria imported 321,000 tons of dairy products, 8% less that the same period the previous year but 17% more than 2010.

Fonterra drug mystery could hurt brand

The alleged discovery of drugs in a Fonterra milk powder container in Algeria could temporarily hurt its brand but is a far cry from the Sanlu scandal which cost the company dearly in 2008, commentators say.
