MADISON CO., N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County (CCE-MC) will be holding two events on March 27th to support Dairy Farmers who are facing continuing hardships with decline of milk check payments at a time when production costs continue to rise. The resulting stress has placed the profession of farming at the top of the list for suicide rates.
‘How to Assist our Farmers in Challenging Times’ will be presented by NY Farm Net in order to increase awareness of free services available to support farmers. NY Farm Net was founded in 1986 by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. The program provides free and confidential services in a variety of areas including farm business finance, stress management, depression, and suicide prevention. Discussion will follow and include creating a stronger network of services for farmers throughout the County. The community partner program will be held from 4:30-6:00pm at CCE-MC in Morrisville, NY and is open to all with advanced RSVP to kbump@cornell.edu.
The community partner program follows the ‘Dairy Farm Business Planning in Uncertain and Challenging Times’ program for farmers. The agenda focuses on tangible business planning steps farmers can take to improve sustainability and will also include discussion of services available through NY Farm Net. The ‘Dairy Farm Business Planning in Uncertain and Challenging Times’ program is made possible through the new CCE-MC partnership with the CNY Regional Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crop Team. To register, please email aml439@cornell.edu.
For additional information on either program, please contact Dr. Karin Bump at kbump@cornell.edu or 315-684-3001.
