A news release by the agency advised anyone who purchased pints or quarts of the product in plastic containers with an expiration date of Sept. 7, 2017, from the The Market at Oregon Dairy, 2900 Oregon Pike, to discard the cream.
Tests completed during routine sampling by the agency indicated the product was not properly pasteurized.
No illnesses from drinking or eating the heavy cream have been reported, the Agriculture Department said.
Curvin Hurst, Oregon Dairy co-owner, told LNP Tuesday that the problem apparently occurred in the cooling process at the dairy. «We think we have it resolved and are testing it,» Hurst said.
He said heavy cream would not be manufactured again until a state inspector tests the cooling process.
Hurst estimated fewer than 50 containers of the heavy cream were sold from the store. Another 68 were pulled from shelves.
He said the dairy has been manufacturing heavy cream since 1975 and never had a problem.
«We regret it and will gladly work with all our customers in refunding their money,» he said. Anyone who purchased one of the affected containers can come to the store for a refund, he said.
On Sunday, the state agency issued a similar warning to consumers for purchases of heavy cream from The Spring House Dairy in Washington County.
