DAIRY giant Fonterra Co-operative has announced senior management changes including the appointment of a new managing director for Australia.
In a statement released yesterday, Fonterra CEO Theo Spierings said a new leadership team had been confirmed for its Asia Pacific Middle East Africa (APMEA) business unit, effective June 1.
Among the changes, Judith Swales will become Managing Director Australia, joining Fonterra after leading Heinz across Australasia.
“Judith has considerable experience in delivering business turnarounds across a number of industry sectors, with a great understanding of consumer, customer and operations which will be critical in our Australian business,” Mr Spierings said.
Fonterra’s Managing Director APMEA Mark Wilson is leaving Fonterra.
Mr Spierings said Mr Wilson had made an important contribution to Fonterra, leading sustained growth in the co-operative’s Asian and Middle East consumer businesses over the past five years. Mr Wilson had also overseen the creation of the new APMEA business unit.
“It has been a big undertaking and with all the key management now in place for APMEA, Mark has decided due to some family health matters that the time is right for him to leave the co-operative which he will do at the end of April,” Mr Spierings said.
In March, Fonterra cited the retail price war between Woolworths and Coles and increased competition from private label brands for a 32 per cent drop in interim earnings from its trans-Tasman dairy foods business.
Fonterra’s January half-year net profit rose 33pc to $NZ459 million after a strong performance from its New Zealand milk business and higher volumes in Asia and Latin America.
But earnings before interest and tax from the Australia-NZ foods business fell 32pc to $NZ98 million.
