New Zealand dairy farmers are going all out to produce milk, despite the lower prices they will receive.
By September 30, milk collection was 4.5 per cent ahead of last season, according to the latest Fonterra Global Dairy Update.
The peak period for the season is mid-October, with pasture growth favourable for continued production. In total, the amount of milk collected for the first three months was 322 million kilograms of milk solids.
Fonterra Australia has also reported a growth in production, of 10 per cent, over the first three months of the season on its farms, to 29.4m kg/ms.
All major suppliers to world markets increased production except for Argentina and Uruguay.
On a year-on-year basis to the end of July, New Zealand lifted production by 5.8 per cent, compared with the EU (4.3 per cent), and the US (2.5 per cent).
