Now according to new data, milk production is up in all 50 states, and a big part of that is coming out of Idaho.
In this week’s segment of Grow Southern Idaho, we take a look at the numbers behind the uptick.
According to preliminary data in the March Milk Production Report, U.S. milk production is up over one and a half percent.
That’s a trend now in its 14th month.
The Agriculture Department estimates output in the top 23 producing states at 15 billion pounds, since February of 2014.
That can be attributed to – two factors.
First, the number of cows producing milk is up.
And second, the amount of milk each cow is producing is up.
Over the last year the cow population has increased by over 100,000.
