Australia’s annual milk production grew 0.4% in 2013-14 on the back of large increases in Tasmania, according to the latest statistics released by Dairy Australia today.
Milk production in 2013-14 was 9,238,601 million litres compared with 9,200,702 last year.
The export milk states led the charge with Tasmanian production up 5.8% and Victorian production up 1.4%.
Production fell in all other states with Queensland seeing the biggest fall, down 5.3%.
June production was 8.9% higher than last June with Tasmanian milk production 15.5% higher for June and Victorian milk production 11.9% higher for June.
South Australia (up 5.3%) and NSW (up 2.8%) were also higher for June.
In Victoria, the strong resurgence in milk production continued in all regions in June with Gippsland up 15.1%, Western Victoria up 12.9% and Northern Victoria up 8.4% for the month.
Gippsland finished the year up 3.2%, while Northern Victoria finished 1.7% up for the year.
After a slow start, Western Victoria finished the year marginally down (0.5%).
