A milk powder drying plant went up in flames this evening in Pukekohe, sparking a callout of 15 fire engines to fight the blaze.
The fire started at 5.30pm at the Paerata Milk Processing Facility in an industrial area north of Pukekohe. The building, containing a milk powder drying machine, was 30 by 10 metres, and 50m high.
It took four hours to put out the blaze, and a fire engine was still monitoring the site at 11.30pm, a Fire Service spokesman said.
«We managed to save it.»
Milk powder was burned inside the plant, the spokesman said. It was unknown what caused the blaze.
