Thanks to a class-action settlement involving residents of several states against a handful of companies involved in the dairy industry, Michigan residents are eligible to receive compensation if they bought milk or other dairy products at any point since 2003.
The settlement calls for the defendants in the case National Milk Producers Federation, aka Cooperatives Working Together (CWT), Dairy Farmers of America, Inc., Land O’Lakes, Inc., Dairylea Cooperative Inc., and Agri-Mark, Inc. to pay out $52 million to refund consumers after an antitrust lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court.
«This antitrust lawsuit alleges a nationwide conspiracy by CWT and its members to limit the production of raw farm milk by prematurely slaughtering cows, in order to illegally increase the price of milk and other fresh milk products. Defendants deny any wrongdoing or liability for the claims alleged,» reads the notice of settlement.
However, since the CWT and the other members have agreed to pay out the $52 million residents in Arizona, California, the District of Columbia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin may file a claim for payment.
Along with milk, you may be entitled to a settlement if you’ve purchased cream, half & half, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, or sour cream.
To file your claim, you must submit your name and email address while also confirming you’ve bought dairy products at a store since 2003 via an online form. No proof of purchase is necessary to file your claim.

The deadline to file a claim is Jan. 31, 2017. After all claims have been filed, you will be contacted with details on how to receive your claim. The amount awarded will depend on how many people file claims.
According to the website, individuals will receive somewhere between $45-$70. Entities that purchased milk in bulk may receive between $1,260-$1,960.
