French and German milk collections down

The trend is said to be EU-wide, with UK milk collections to the end of July remaining below average. By Amy McShane

Milk collections in France and Germany are decreasing.
Data from FranceAgriMer showed collections from the end of June to the end of July were down by between 0.53% and 4.13%. Collections in the season from April to July saw a 1.9% decrease at 7.74m tonnes.
French collections in June were 3.3% behind last year in liquid terms, while French MS collections were down 2.5% Y/Y. Cumulative French liquid collections were flat by the end of June, while French MS collections were up 0.7% Y/Y.
Germany
Meanwhile in Germany, MS collections in June were down 1.3% compared to the 1.5% reduction observed in liquid milk collections.
Cumulative German MS collections for the year to date are currently 4.6% ahead of last year as opposed to 3.7% in liquid milk terms.
Milk collections in the UK also remain below average, according to figures from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
While the rate of seasonal decline has slowed, milk collections fell 1% on the previous week at 258.8m litres.
Trends
The trend is said to be across the EU, with production in Italy falling 2.7% in comparison with the same month in 2015.
Globally there are similar trends, with Fonterra seeing a 10% drop in milk collections.
