Visitors to Conor Creedon’s farm at last month’s IGA walk were treated to a tour de force on dairy farming. What made the day special wasn’t just the superb weather or the scenery, it was the fact that Conor is not only surviving but thriving on difficult and steep land 900ft above sea level. Added to this was Conor’s clarity of thought and ease of communication.
Last year, the farm grew 15.5t/ha of grass, produced 1,520kg of milk solids per hectare, with 580kg of meal fed per cow. Here are some of the key messages:
