Former UDP owner Tony Esposito has confirmed to The Weekly Times his new business, National Dairy Products, would start collecting milk from suppliers this evening.
The areas he will collect milk from include western and northern Victoria.
Mr Esposito hopes to start collecting milk from Gippsland on Monday.
He said he hopes to secure more than 100 million litres of milk from farmers who supplied UDP.
He also committed to pay the UDP farmgate “price structure from before it went into receivership”. Mr Esposito said he didn’t have the numbers in front of him when he was contacted by The Weekly Times.
An office will be set up for NDP in Melbourne and Mr Esposito will interview for staff.
Mr Esposito said NDP will broker milk to the businesses which previously purchased milk from UDP. He said Lion was not included in this deal as it had a contract with Burra Foods.
This comes as UDP suppliers were told on Wednesday that they had until 5pm today to find a new home for their milk.
Rod Slattery and Greg Quinn from PPB Advisory were appointed the receivers of UDP, United Dairy Products and United Dairy Transport.
On Tuesday night dairy giant Murray Goulburn confirmed it had purchased the Caboolture cheese brand from UDP and some of its equipment. Wednesday Burra Foods confirmed it had bought the Poowong plant from UDP.
Mr Esposito sold the UDP business to Hong Kong private investor William Hui in February 2014.
In November the UDP parent company Five Star United Food (Aust) Pty Ltd was placed into receivership by Rabobank
