Fewer U.S. female dairy replacement cattle are headed abroad, with September-October exports the lowest two-month total since early 2009, according to USDA’s Foreign Ag Service. October’s exports totaled just 945 head, following the 646 head exported in September.
U.S. dairy replacement exports have now dropped below 1,000 in three of the past five months, putting the 2014 year-to-date total at the lowest level since 2009.
And, all the exported animals stayed close to home in October: Mexico was the leading importer, with 866 head; followed by Canada, taking the remaining 79 head.
Year-to-date, U.S. dairy replacement animal exports total 28,912 head, down nearly 25,000 from same period a year ago.
