Dairy Industry Wants Obama to Challenge WHO Proposal on Dairy Products

The U.S. dairy industry wants President Obama to challenge a World Health Organization proposal that discourages the consumption of dairy products by young children. Chris Galen with the National Milk Producers Federation says it ironic that the WHO plan doesn’t mesh with the dietary guidelines set in the United States.

He says dairy products provide toddlers almost 27-percent of their total energy intake.
Galen says the WHO proposal, set to go into effect later this month, conflicts with the advice handed out by most physicians and nutritionists around the world.
Joining the National Milk Producers Federation in their letter to the President are the International Dairy Foods Association and the U.S. Dairy Export Council.
