AUSTRALIA’S dairy industry will showcase potential investment opportunities to interested foreign and domestic parties at a forum early next year.
To be hosted by Dairy Australia, the inaugural Australian Dairy Investment Forum will provide an opportunity for those interested in Australian dairy to gather an understanding of the current operating environment and outlook for the future of the industry.

Registrations for the event opened last week and according to Dairy Australia, the forum was prompted by the large number of investment inquiries it had received in the past 12 months.

According to ABC radio, Dairy Australia managing director Ian Halliday, who was speaking at the organisation’s recent AGM, said foreign companies wanted to know where to spend their money in Australia, and investment from foreign or local parties was needed to achieve growth in the industry.

It is hoped the event will provide a platform for participants to share information, explore potential opportunities and enhance understanding and knowledge.

Dairy Australia manager of biotechnology and strategic initiatives Paula Fitzgerald, said a number of other dairy organisations had also received inquires about potential investment opportunities.

«I think it is probably fair to say some of those inquiries have been quite focused and others have not been so sure about the dairy landscape,» Ms Fitzgerald said.

«That prompted the Dairy Australia board to think this was a good opportunity.

«Obviously Dairy Australia produces quite a lot of information and analysis around the industry, so we have that information available.

«We thought why don’t we actually have an event where we can talk about our supply chain, not only in terms of how different regions operate and what they are producing, but then also from the on-farm perspective through to the processing end of the supply chain.

«There are some inquiries that are sharper or targeted and are asking the questions, whereas others aren’t quite sure where to start with the questions.»
