Dairy firm Avonmore leading brand in Ireland

HOME grown brands remain favourites for Irish consumers, with dairy firm Avonmore the cream of the crop.

According to recently published report by TechSci Research titled «India Dairy Products MarketBy Product Type, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2011 2021, yogurt market in Indiagrew at a CAGR of 28.9% during 2011-2015. Moreover, the country’s yogurt market is projected to grow at an even more faster pace over next five years and touch US$ 1 Billion by 2021. Easy availability of various functional products, and rising emphasis on low calorie and low fat content of food products is driving yogurt consumption in India. Yogurts are gradually eating away the share of traditional dairy products in urban and semi urban cities, on account of increasing health awareness, better quality of packaged yogurt and increasing yogurt flavors.
According to the latest analysis by Kantar Worldpanel, half of the top 10 brands in Ireland are indigenous.
Other household names to make the list include Brennans, Denny, Jacob’s and Batchelors.
Half of the overall top 50 is also made up of Irish brands.
And the number of growing with the majority of new entrants home grown, including Charleville, MiWadi, Country Kitchen and Carroll’s of Tullamore.
The 2016 Brand Footprint research by Kantar Worldpanel found that more than three-quarters of Irish people chose Avonmore on average 27.4 times a year.
That means, Avonmore branded goods were picked from supermarket shelves 35 million times last year.
Brennan is the second biggest brand in Ireland, bought an average of 25 times a year by 71.5 per cent of households.
It is followed by Denny in third place (16.3 times a year by 76.7 per cent) and Jacob’s in fifth. Jacob’s is bought by 84.8 per cent of Irish households, achieving the highest penetration of any brand in this year’s ranking.
Soft drinks giant Coca-Cola retains first place in the worldwide Brand Footprint ranking.
Only Knorr, Coca-Cola and Heinz appear in both the Irish and European top 10.
Bread producer Warburton’s is the leading brand in the UK.
Kantar Worldpanel director David Berry said: “Irish brands continue to represent a strong contingent in our shopping baskets and it’s promising that they’re succeeding in the same space as pan-European and global businesses.
«This isn’t just true of food brands – sector specific rankings show brands like Lyons, MiWadi and Killeen all performing better than their international competition.”
