That’s an 11% increase, but keep in mind, there was one more business day this June compared to last year. On a daily basis, slaughter numbers were up 568 head, or 6%, over 2014.
Total cows slaughtered in June were also up 7,500 head over May. But again, there was one more working day in May, which meant the daily average in June was actually down 1.2% compared to May 2015.
On a year-to-date basis, some 1,456,700 dairy cows have been slaughtered. That 65,000 more than a year ago, for a 4.7% increase.
