China’s dairy imports increased by 25% during March 2012 compared with March 2011. Zealand supplied 60% of the product imported by China, the EU‐27 provided 20%, and the US supplied 13%. Imports of whole milk powder (WMP) in March were down by 1.7% from the previous year, but New Zealand managed to increase its WMP supply to 96% of China’s requirements.
China’s demand for whey based products increased by 45% with the EU supplying over half of China’s dairy whey imports. China’s appetite for skim milk powder (SMP) and anhydrous Milkfat (AMF) has nearly doubled over the past year.
