Australian dairy processors hoping to take advantage of high global dairy commodity prices will be disappointed by the low volumes of milk being produced this season.
During October 2013 only 1,007.6 million liters of milk was processed which was 4.9% less than in the same month as 2012. During the first four months of the production season (July-October) production across Australia was down by 4.1%.
Output in all of the six states is tracking behind last season’s levels. Output in Victoria, Australia’s main milk producing state, was down 4.4% in October. The western part of the province of Victoria is showing the biggest decline down by more than 7% in October and on a season to date basis.
