Canadian dairy group Agropur has snapped up own-label and ingredients supplier M. Larivée International.

Agropur said the acquisition would help it build its presence outside Canada. «The acquisition of MLI goes hand in hand with our desire to develop the export market. MLI’s expertise will see us significantly accelerate our development as well as access very promising markets,» Agropur CEO Robert Coallier said.

Marcel Larivée, the owner of the M. Larivée International, will join Agropur to head its export group, which will form part of the company’s cheese and ingredients division.

The acquisition, struck for an undisclosed sum, is Agropur’s third in five months. In July, the company bought British Columbian ice cream maker Coast Mountain Dairy. A month earlier, it snapped up Nova Scotia-based Cook’s Dairy.
