Fuel Up to Play 60 is a program created by America’s dairy farmers, the National Dairy Council and the National Football League.
Not getting enough physical activity and consuming high-caloric foods and beverages are a few of the leading behaviors influencing excess weight gain in today’s youth, according to a news release from the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. The Fuel Up to Play 60 Program encourages students to “fuel up” with nutrient-rich foods and to “get active and play” for at least 60 minutes daily.
This program has educated 38 million students on a national level and 3 million students in Wisconsin. Ninety percent of those students report they are consuming more dairy.
Through their partnership with the National Dairy Council and the National Football League, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin helps Wisconsin students understand where their food comes from while increasing access to dairy foods.
The Fuel Up to Play 60 Program reaches 175,000 Wisconsin students, annually, encouraging them to lead healthier lives, according to the news release.
There are 500 Wisconsin schools actively participating in the program, encouraging students to exercise at least 60 minutes every day and choose a healthy diet including a variety of dairy foods, such as milk, cheese and yogurt.
Wisconsin students learn the importance of a healthy lifestyle from Mason Crosby, the Wisconsin Fuel Up to Play 60 Green Bay Packers spokesperson.
This year, the program kicks off by providing back to school education kits to 1,000 Wisconsin schools, grant dollars to 128 Wisconsin schools and many other resources, materials and support to promote Wisconsin dairy products, the news release stated.
