One local farmer is criticizing Donald Trump for spreading false information regarding milk.
Gerrit Damsteegt is a dairy farmer and the chair of the Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia.
He says watching NAFTA renegotiations has been frustrating, and he feels the truth isn’t being told.
Damsteegt says the president of the United States claims Canada has unfair trade practices, but that goes both ways.
«Let me make this clear, the U.S. does the same thing,» said Damsteegt.
Supply management is a system that protects producers of dairy, eggs and poultry by curbing the import of foreign products through tariffs.
The system has proven to be a leading issue during the trade negotiations between Canada and the U.S.
