New player: Blue Lake Dairy Company in South Australia’s South East has lodged an application with Wattle Range Council to build a $15 million plant to blend milk powder into products for the domestic and international market.
INFANT formula, “youth milk powder”, a supplement for the elderly and even a formula for pregnant women will be processed by new dairy player Blue Lake Dairy Company in South Australia’s South East.
The Chinese-backed company has lodged an application with Wattle Range Council to build a $15 million plant to blend milk powder into products for the domestic and international market.
The plant hopes to create about 60 jobs at a former potato chip factory at Tantanoola, between Millicent and Mt Gambier.
At nearby Penola, Midfield Group is also building a milk dryer to process up to 30,000 tonnes of milk powder a year.
Blue Lake Dairy hopes to be operating by July, with plans for a $50 million second stage to begin at the end of next year.
The second stage would source raw milk to make its own milk powder.
