During the last years, Argentina has been positioned in the international market as a supplier of products derived from whey, by – product of cheese making.
In the first nine months of 2012 were declared exports of whey derivatives by 45,798 tons with a total value of $ 95.6 million, while in 2011 exports were registered for 71,257 tons at a value of 127.8 million dollar.
The main export destinations whey derivatives are Brazil, China and Indonesia, among other Asian and Latin American markets.
The main local company that exports is dairy Arla Foods Ingredients Argentina (built by Danish company Arla Food and SanCor). Also operate Mastellone Hnos, The Sibyl, Milkaut, Remotti, Saputo, Dairy Lions The Bleek and Cristina, among others.
