Dairy company Fonterra is recalling a cheese slice product after reports of plastic packaging sticking to the cheese when it is unwrapped.
It is voluntarily recalling Mainland Tasty Individually Wrapped Flavoured Processed Cheese Slices 250g with a best before date of February 28, 2014.
Fonterra Brands NZ sales director Baden Ngan Kee said the recall decision followed two reported incidents of thin strips of the plastic wrapping sticking to the cheese.
The New Zealand-produced slices have been sold in the North Island and in Fiji.
An investigation found the fault was in the product’s packaging, Ngan Kee said.
«The plastic wrapping of individual slices may split into thin strips causing a potential hazard if consumed. There have been no reports of anyone being harmed.»
The recall was a precautionary measure.
Consumers should not eat the stated product but should return it to the point of purchase, with the packaging with the best before date, for a full refund.
FBNZ was working with Fiji authorities to ensure the affected product is removed from market. No other products manufactured by or on behalf of FBNZ were affected, the company said.
