Dairy returns are so strong at the moment that sheep and beef farmers are converting their properties over to dairying to make the most of the good prices.

Christchurch farm accountant Pita Alexander says there’s huge demand from China for milk powder and that’s driving growth in the New Zealand dairy industry.

«We’re having about 40 to 50 dairy conversions in the South Island per year, and maybe 10 in the North Island, and it looks as though it will continue.»
