Dairy exports from the US fell by 24% to $377.3m in November 2015 from the same month in 2014.
Although skim milk powder (SMP) and lactose figures were slightly higher, cheese and whey exports dropped significantly, while butter and whole milk powder (WMP) sales fell to negligible levels.
The country exported just 1,125t of butterfat products during November, down 59%. Exports to the Middle East and North Africa were down to just 26t from an average monthly shipment of 5,000t for the previous two years.
Higher milk prices and the strong dollar would have made the US uncompetitive in these markets.
US dairy exports represented 12.7% of the country’s milk solids production in November, the lowest since January 2015.
