Milk producer Cravendale has launched a new 250ml bottle which is being sold in the chilled «grab and go» drinks section of supermarkets.
It will save milk lovers wanting to drink the white stuff on the move from having to make a trip to the milk isle when visiting shops.
The new bottles are now being stocked in supermarkets including ASDA, Co-op, Nisa and Bestway and Cravendale’s parent company, Arla, is in talks with other large retailers who are looking to stock it.
The new smaller milk bottles priced around 65p would be aimed at appealing to busy Britons as healthy on-the-go alternatives to picking up fizzy drinks, many of which contain high levels of sugar.
Semi-skimmed cow’s milk is low in fat and offers a rich source of calcium, a mineral essential for healthy bones and teeth. It is also often fortified with vitamin D, which is also beneficial for bone health.
Grocer Magazine editor, Adam Leyland, said: «some consumers may baulk at paying 65p for a 250ml bottle of milk. But attach to milk a cause, makes the bottles cool or functional, and promote its many properties carefully and cleverly, and milk could be a brand to be reckoned with, and even feared.»
Jenna Heinz, brand manager at Arla Cravendale said: “Milk is widely recognised as being part of a balanced diet, and with consumers demanding greater on-the-go drink options we are responding with the launch of Arla Cravendale 250ml; a healthy, natural option to fizzy drinks and juices.
«People can be surprised at how pure and refreshing milk tastes, and now they can enjoy it alone as a refreshing beverage, rather than just on cereal or in tea.»
