U.S. female replacement dairy cattle exports fell to their lowest level in five months, but were still substantially higher than a year ago, according to USDA’s Foreign Ag Service.
January exports were estimated at 3,959 head, the lowest monthly total since August 2013. Russia was the top destination for U.S. replacements during the month, at 1,730 head. Mexico was close behind, at 1,480 head, with Turkey a distant third, at 460 head.
The 2013 total of 66,640 head trailed only 2011, when U.S. female dairy cattle exports hit 73,642 head.
January hay exports fall to 18-month low
Monthly exports of both alfalfa and other dry hay fell to their lowest levels since July 2012, according to USDA’s Foreign Ag Service.
January 2014 U.S. alfalfa hay exports totaled 131,741 metric tons. Japan was the top market, at 42,888 metric tons; followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), at 38,327 metric tons. China was third, at 30,604 metric tons.
January 2014 U.S. exports of other hay totaled 136,658 metric tons. Japan was the leading market, at 76,186 metric tons; followed by South Korea, at 26,106 metric tons; and China, at 13,716 metric tons.
