GLANBIA chairman Michael Walsh has retired after 30 years representing farmers, first with Avonmore and then with Glanbia. The Graignamanagh farmer has helped ot lead the company through turbulent times into relatively calm waters and leaves the company in much better shape than when he took over as chairman.
After a career spanning 30 years representing farmers in the Barrowvale region on the boards of Avonmore and Glanbia he formally retired last week. He will however remain on the Glanbia US Advisory Board and was recently elected as vice-chairman of the Irish Dairy Board – where he will also represent Glanbia.
This week over 100 New Mexico ‘Amigos’ visited Ireland to celebrate the friendship and economic ties between Glanbia and the US state of New Mexico. Glanbia in association with its partners Dairy Farmers of America and Select Milk Producers has invested over j200 million in the Southwest Cheese Co., a world class cheese and whey business in Clovis, New Mexico. It marked Michael Walsh’s last official function as chairman.
The New Mexico Amigos is a private company chartered under the laws of the state of New Mexico and officially designated Goodwill Ambassadors for New Mexico. Its members are distinguished New Mexico civic, business, industrial and professional leaders who devote time and financial support to the organisation. This was the first visit by the New Mexico Amigos to Ireland and is attributable to the positive impression forged by Glanbia in New Mexico which they hope to build on and explore other opportunities of mutual interest between the people of Kilkenny and New Mexico.
