Fonterra, a New Zealand-based dairy co-operative, is geared up to commence operations at its new NZD120m ($99m) UHT milk processing site at Waitoa.
The new facility features five new UHT processing lines that will produce a range of products, including Anchor UHT white milk and UHT cream. It will have a capacity to process over 100 million liters of milk per annum by August, when all five lines become operational.

Meanwhile, Fonterra has begun water commissioning in order to test the milk processing and packaging capabilities at the site.

Fonterra UHT operations manager Donald Lumsden said that the global demand for dairy is growing and the company is now well-positioned to meet this growth with its new UHT milk processing site at Waitoa.

«The site’s technology means we can produce up to 24,000 milk packs an hour per line, they will be flying off the line,» added Lumsden.

Fonterra collects, manufactures and sells milk and milk derived products in New Zealand, Europe, Asia, Australia, the US, and internationally.

It provides various ingredient products, including milk powders, milk protein concentrates and isolates, dried milk, butter and cream products, cheese, hydrolysates, dairy complex lipids, probiotics, functional beverages, and other products derived from milk or milksolids.
