More than 200 people attended Fonterra’s milk tanker operator recruitment day yesterday at its Clandeboye site in South Canterbury.
Fonterra was looking to recruit 65 truck operators to fill tanker operator positions across the central South Island and the turn out was a lot more than that.
Fonterra Clandeboye Depot manager Chris Win said, the roles follow Fonterra’s recent announcement of a $72 million investment at its Clandeboye mozzarella plant and as part of the increase to Fonterra’s central South Island fleets year-on-year to meet the growing milk volumes.
«Ninety-six people registered their interest in the employment opportunities and Fonterra will be processing the registrations and will follow up with all applicants to fill the roles,» Win said.
Fonterra’s Clandeboye site collects milk from farmer shareholders’ farms from North Canterbury to Otago and turns it into cheese, unsalted butter, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, anhydrous milk fat and milk powders.
One of Fonterra’s largest sites, Clandeboye processes up to 13.2 million litres of milk per day. This equates to more than 40 per cent of all milk collected by Fonterra in the South Island.
Win said, «It was a great opportunity for us to work with people from our communities. We are pleased with the registered interest and look forward to bringing new people on board.»
