Fire broke out today at Wisconsin’s largest dairy, causing $1 million in commodity barn damages and lost feed, but no employees or cows were hurt, local news reports said.
The fire at Rosendale Dairy near Fond du Lac, Wis., started when a tractor in a commodity shed caught fire around 2:30 p.m., said the Fond du Lac reporter.
The fire spread to an estimated 13,000 bales of straw, feed and equipment stored in the building.
Rosendale Dairy has 8,400 cows and produces 78,000 gallons daily. The fire isn’t expected to interfere with the dairy’s usual workload. With feed headed over from another facility, the dairy “won’t miss a feeding,†said Bill Harke, a spokesperson for Milk Source LLC, which owns Rosendale Dairy and several other dairy farms in the area.
