A fire at the Synlait milk plant near Dunsandel in rural Canterbury has been brought under control.
Crews were called to the address of the multimillion-dollar milk powder processing plant in Heslerton Rd, about 50 kilometres southwest of Christchurch, at 7.30pm.
A fire communications spokesman said the severity of the fire was still being assessed.
Volunteer crews from Dunsandel and Rakaia were first at the scene, before back-up was needed from the Burnham, Rolleston, Hororata, Leeston and Southbridge crews.
Fire engines from Christchurch have been sent also.
