Brattleboro, Vt.-based Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy will open a $50 million facility in Casa Grande this month.
The yogurt maker will operate a 100,000-square-foot dairy on 27 acres in Casa Grande to better serve retail partners on the West Coast.
Ehrmann produces Greek and traditional yogurt for a number of retailers, in addition to its own brand: Green Mountain Creamery products.
The Arizona dairy will create 110 jobs for the region, according to Ehrmann.
Company executives chose Casa Grande because of its infrastructure, dedicated workforce and proximity to milk suppliers, said Vice President and CFO Benjamin Johnson.
“This location will enable us to make our products readily accessible to all of the major consumer markets along the West Coast,” he said.
Ehrmann is known for innovative approaches to safety in production and a commitment to environmental sustainability. At its Vermont dairy, Ehrmann produces more than 125,000 cases of packaged yogurt each week. Information was not immediately available on how much capacity the Casa Grande facility will add.
In addition to serving West Coast clients more easily, the Arizona facility bolsters the dairy’s options to attract new customers.
“Not only has our original facility in Brattleboro grown, we have seen a clear interest in current and potential clients for us to provide similar products and services for the central and western part of the country through Ehrmann Arizona Dairy,” said CEO Thomas Moffitt. “We have created the infrastructure to launch multiple innovative new products under the global Ehrmann brand commencing in January 2014.”
The company also completed recent expansion efforts at its Vermont dairy, which opened in March 2011.
