Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) There is now good news for dairy farmers. The milk program which has been in limbo for the past two months has now been reinstated.«With that having happened over the last few years with low milk prices, these payments are something that help our milk producers. These four local counties produce most of the milk in Idaho. So for us to now be able to make those payments from October all the way through the March means they will have a little bit more help which is the safety net that the FSA provides,» said Lance Phillips with the Farm Service Agency.
The milk program was put on hold following the sequester. Now that the program has been reestablished, payments and even interest on back payments will soon resume.
«Those were shutdown March 1st due to sequestration and they’ve now been released. So we will be starting those payments as soon as possible including some of those payments that were due earlier, we are going to be paying interest on those as well. So they may see a little bit more than just the payment.»
To start getting the milk program payments, there are a few things you will want to make sure you do.
«What I would like to see the dairy producers is they need to make sure they have completed their average gross income statement which is just their yearly eligibility that they qualify. And they need to make sure that we have production.»
A lot of the production is usually sent to the FSA office automatically through the suppliers. But the FSA office says you should double check to make sure they have your production to ensure your payments are processed promptly.
