The burgeoning dairy industry says there »will be no opportunity for the fund to incentivise emissions reductions» under the current Direct Action policy, with abatement payments to be outweighed by costs.
In its submission to the government’s Emissions Reduction Fund green paper, the Australian Dairy Industry Council said the $13 billion industry could only achieve «meaningful» emissions reductions through energy efficiency measures.
«Indications about the Emissions Reduction Fund to date suggest that there will be no opportunity for the fund to incentivise emissions reduction in the dairy industry,» it wrote in the submission.
