Coconut milk: Starbucks is giving the people what they want

Acquiescing to popular demand, Starbucks announced Wednesday that it will begin offering coconut milk at all U.S. stores come Feb. 17.

Coconut milk is the second most-requested improvement pitched toMyStarbucksIdea.com, a website where customers can suggest menu improvements, among other things, for the Seattle-based coffee companySBUX, -0.54%

The idea generated more than 84,000 votes at MyStarbucksIdea.com, inspiring Starbucks to begin a test run in select cities back in October.

The company’s coconut milk will be “certified vegan and made from single-origin coconuts” grown on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the company said.

“Delivering the options our customers want is always the highlight of my day,” said Christine Barone, Starbucks vice president brewed espresso in a statement. “We have a high bar for anything we pair with our high quality espresso and this coconut milk is smooth and perfectly complements the coffee. I personally love it in an iced vanilla latte.”
