DFP bought a 310 hectare property near Poowong in Gippsland for $22,000 per hectare. The farm will continue to supply local dairy processor Murray Goulburn.
The company acquired a second property 10 kilometres north at Althone to establish a milk pool that includes approximately 950 dairy cows.
Farmer Peter Notman sold his dairy at Poowong to DFP to take a step back from the dairy industry.
He said the company would face a steep learning curve while it adjusted to farming under Australian conditions but would have a platform for future expansion.
«I guess they were looking for reliable areas and whether it’s the Macalister part of Gippsland or west and south Gippsland they are all considered reliable areas,» he said.
«The size of the dairy they bought here isn’t huge.
«They’ve done a fair bit of due diligence and there will be opportunities for them to expand once they feel they’re comfortable in the way they are running it.»
