During the first three months of the 2012 / 2013 dairying season, butter production in Australia increased by 9% from a year ago. Skim milk powder (SMP) and cheese production also increased by 7.8% and 7.2% respectively.
Meanwhile, production volumes were down for whole milk powder (WMP), whey powder, butter oil and butter milk powder (BMP). In the three months to the end of September 2012, 34,000 tons of WMP was produced which is approximately 4,5000 tons less than during the same time period in 2011. Whey powder production has dropped by 11.4% this season.
