During the month of July 2012, exports of dairy products from Australia were up 11% on year-ago volumes. Butter exports were up by more than 200%, while strong gains were also recorded for whey
products, skim milk powder, mixtures and liquid milk. During the month of July exports to Japan, Australia’s largest market for dairy products, was up 24% from July 2011.
Japan, who typically buys cheese from Australia have this year increased the volume of skim milk powder and butter imported from Australia. Australia’s exports to several other Asian countries were also up during July including: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China and the Philippines.
