ARLA Milk Link producers will see a 1.06ppl price increase from April 29 – and there is the prospect of more to come. This new money take their standard litre price to 30.21ppl and, according to Arla, is the result of Arla Foods amba raising its ‘on account’ or basic price on the back of improved business performance and increases in global commodity prices.
The commodity price movements are having a positive impact on the retail market, globally, the company says.
Commenting on the increase, Ash Amirahmadi, Arla’s vice president with responsibility for UK milk and member services said: “The price increase is fully in line with our cooperative principles.
“Being wholly owned by dairy farmers, including 1,600 in Britain, we are totally focused on securing the highest possible value for all of our farmers’ milk, through maximising the returns we generate on every litre.
“The markets continue to indicate a positive outlook over the coming months and we will pass back further benefits to our farmers as soon as we are able,” said Mr Amirahmadi.
Johnnie Russell, Arla Foods amba board director, added: “The much needed price rise is welcome news and comes at a critical time for our owners who, in common with other British dairy farmers, are continuing to face huge pressures on farm as a consequence of increasing on farm costs and challenging weather conditions.”
