Algeria’s imports of dairy products slowed in November 2012, totaling just 19,326 tons. This comes after purchasing over 30,000 tons in both September and October. During the first 11 months of 2012 Algeria imported 321,000 tons of dairy products, 8% less that the same period the previous year but 17% more than 2010.Algeria is one of the biggest dairy importing nations in the world. In 2012, 53% of the volume purchased was whole milk powder, while skim milk powder accounted for 32% and cheese 8%.
New Zealand holds the biggest share of this market, supplying 27% of imports during the year to November, up from 22% in 2011. France is second, at 20% followed by Argentina which supplied 14%.
