AS THE phrase goes, kids say the funniest things – and new research out today shows just how bizarre some of their beliefs are, with many children confused when it comes to cows.
A third of children (33 per cent) don’t know that milk comes from cows, with nearly one in five believing it comes straight from the fridge or supermarket.
When it comes to their appearance, one in 10 believe that a cow is the size of a double decker bus and over 10 per cent think they’re as small as cats. The research also revealed that 1 in 8 children (12 per cent) from London are unaware that cows moo.
These humorous findings suggest that children haven’t yet had the opportunity to learn about cows as many may have limited access to them, particularly in inner cities.
In order to tackle some of these misconceptions, Cadbury created a hyper-realistic eight foot (fully moo-ing!) animatronic cow named Buttons who took to the streets of London to show families exactly what cows do. This activity was part of the Cadbury Adopt a Cow campaign, a new initiative that gives families the opportunity to adopt a Cadbury cow.
Phil Warfield, Senior Brand Manager for Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons says:
“We’re really proud to be able to give families the opportunity to learn more about these fascinating animals through our ‘Adopt a Cow’ program and offer the chance to come face to face with some of our very special Cadbury cows. Cows are incredibly important to us – after all, they provide us with the glass and a half of fresh British and Irish milk that goes into our delicious Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons and we hope to excite and inspire people across the country to adopt a cow.”
