The Cochrane family who’ve owned local dairy farms for generations have erected a huge sign out the front of one of their properties on the Princes Highway urging people to boycott them entirely.
Meantime, Chairman of South Coast Dairy John Miller drives around with a sign on the back of his ute reading farmers deserve better with a huge cross through $1 milk.
He says the extra money charged will make no difference.
«We’re getting less than what we did 18 years ago when they deregulated the industry, milk across the board has just got to go up 20 to 25 centres per litre at least for dairy farmers to survive», Mr Miller said. «And then you put the drought on top of the situation and our feed costs are astronomical», he said.
