Total US dairy export numbers are up 5% from a year ago through the end of September 2012. These numbers were mainly achieved by higher export volumes during the first half of the year as the third quarter of 2012 has seen a decline in the export of skim milk powder and cheese.
The US’s largest market, Mexico saw a 4% decreases from a year ago, while SMP exports to the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia were down by 25 to 30%. This drop in demand was partially offset by SMP exports to Algeria which totaled 7,700 tons in the 2012 third quarter.
Cheese exports volumes which grew considerably during the first half of 2012 also saw a decrease within the third quarter.
